"NOTES TO THE COACHES"

1. We would like to thank you for accepting a coaching position at the Eaton Ruritan Park. As a coach, you will have a great opportunity to be a good influence to the kids on your team. The ERCP committee is very concerned with having good quality people in our coaching positions. In trying to always maintain a positive program, there are some things that should be discussed. We will not tolerate any foul or vulgar language or actions by anyone in the park. If you have a disagreement with an umpire, arguing will not do any good. The ERCP committee will not change an umpires call. You should feel free to discuss with your representative any problems. Be as patient with your players as possible. Remember, they are just children, not pros. If you have a problem with disgruntled parents on your team or during a game, please tell your representative and we will handle it. It never hurts to congratulate players on the other team when they do good. Have fun, play hard, and win, but mostly have fun.

2. This year, as always, the park will be paying the entire cost of your team shirts. No sponsors will be used. The shirts will be your choice of color with the team name on the back and the park logo on the front. If you wish to do your team shirts in any other fashion, meaning numbers, child’s name, etc., this will be your responsibility. The park will pay you the cost of our type of shirts only and all shirts must have the park logo.

* Coaches, if your parents want team shirts, you should have someone be in charge of taking the order and shirt sizes. They should contact the shirt company doing their shirts. The cost of these shirts will be paid by the parents. This should be done as soon as possible. You may even want to ask your parents when you call them about practice times. This is your option and you are not required to do this unless you want to. However, many of the parents would like to have one.

3. Team drinks after the ballgames are not provided by the park. We do, however, sell them at a very reduced price of $5.00. Most coaches ask the parents to take turns paying for the after game drinks. Many times, however, parents forget and the coach will be the one who has to pay. This can get expensive for the coach. One way to handle this problem is to figure the cost of your teams drinks for the entire season and ask your parents to pay their part before the season begins. This way the drinks won’t be a problem. You as a coach can feel free to handle this situation as you see fit.

4. Watch your schedules and double check to make sure you find all of your ball games. We have tried to pack as many ballgames as possible into this year’s season.

5. Call all of your players as soon as possible and advise them as to when their practices will be.

6. Give copies of your schedule to your parents as soon as possible. Giving copies of the rules to the parents is your option. You can make your copies at Presstige Printing at no cost to you. Presstige Printing is located between Broadway Flower Shop and Click Funeral Home. Just tell them you are making copies of your team schedule for the Eaton Ruritan and they will charge them to the park.

7. We ask that if you are a smoker that you refrain from smoking on the field during the games.

8. If you have children that never show up or drop from your team, you need to contact your league representative as soon as possible so we can fill the empty position from the waiting list.

9. Both coaches, Home and Visitor, who have the first game on each field, are responsible for putting out the field equipment, bases, mats, masks, etc. Both coaches, Home and Visitor, who have the last game on each field are responsible for returning the equipment, bases, mats, masks, etc., to the concession stand. Please handle the equipment carefully. The bases are very expensive to replace and if not returned are subject to be stolen.

10. Please take great care in keeping up with the base pedestal plugs. On all the fields, the plugs can be placed under the bases.

11. Rainouts will be decided at 6:30 pm. Since we have such unusual weather this time of year, the best idea would be to show up to play. Sometimes it may be raining where you are, but not at the park. If there is a doubt, call the park (986-9115). Please don’t call committee members at work.

T-BALL-1 ~ RULES & REGULATIONS

1. Each batter bats every inning.

2. Every batter will be safe on base.

3. There will be no outs.

4. Runners will only advance 1 base at a time.

5. After final batter bats and reaches 1st base, the offensive team will take the field.

6. Each time a team takes its turn at bat, you should reverse your batting order so every child will get to score.

7. No umpire will be used.

8. No player is required to play any set positions.

9. All coaches and parents are encouraged to offer positive encouragement to all players on both teams.

               10. No official score will be kept. Everyone on both teams will be a winner 
                in every game.

T-BALL-II ~ RULES & REGULATIONS

1. FIVE RUN LIMIT PER INNING, BATTER BATS UNTIL HE HITS.

2. UMPIRE WILL CALL NO HIT IF TO MUCH TEE IS HIT.

3. WHEN A BATTED BALL IS CAUGHT IN THE AIR, BATTER IS OUT AND THE PLAY IS DEAD, RUNNERS WILL RETURN TO THEIR ORIGINAL BASE WITHOUT BEING TAGGED OUT. NO DOUBLE PLAYS.

4. IF A RUNNER IS HIT BY A BATTED BALL, THE RUNNER IS "NOT" OUT.

5. ALL BATTERS MUST STAY IN LINE WITH BATTING ORDER. (REFER TO ADDENDUM 1.)

6. ANY BATTER ON LINE UP WHO TAKES A TURN AT BAT AND THEN LEAVES THE GAME FOR ANY REASON OTHER THAN SICKNESS OR INJURY, MAY BE COUNTED AS AN OUT EACH TIME IT IS HIS TURN TO BAT THROUGHOUT THE REST OF THE GAME.

7. ALL GAMES WILL BE FOUR INNINGS. TIE GAMES WILL HAVE A ONE INNING ONLY TIE BREAKER WITH A ONE OUT LIMIT.

8. HIND CATCHER IS NOT REQUIRED, BUT ALLOWABLE.

9. SHORT STOP CANNOT ADVANCE TOWARD BATTER ANY CLOSER THAN THE LINE BETWEEN FIRST AND THIRD BASE.

10. IF 2ND BASE RUNNER PASSES 1ST BASE RUNNER, 1ST BASE RUNNER IS NOT OUT.

11. IF A POWER HITTER IS UP TO BAT AND BOTH COACHES AGREE THE PITCHER IS IN DANGER, THE PITCHER CAN MOVE BACK TO THE SAFETY RUBBER. (SAFETY RUBBER IS MAT BETWEEN PITCHERS MAT AND SECOND BASE).

12. PITCHER MUST KEEP ONE FOOT ON RUBBER UNTIL BALL IS HIT.

13. ONLY TWO DEFENSIVE COACHES ON THE PLAYING FIELD AT A TIME AND THEY MUST STAY IN THE GRASS.

14. BALL BOUNCES OVER THE FENCE, ALL PLAYERS ADVANCE TWO BASES.

15. UMPIRE HAS AUTHORITY TO EJECT ANY PLAYER FROM THE GAME.

16. UMPIRE HAS FINAL AUTHORITY ON THE FIELD.

17. PLAY IS DEAD AT UMPIRES DECISION.

18. ANY QUESTIONED RULE OR CALL, CAN BE BROUGHT TO A COMMITTEE MEMBER FOR FUTURE EXAMINATION.

19. UMPIRE HAS A RIGHT TO REVERSE HIS CALL.

20. A PLAYER ARRIVING AFTER THE GAME HAS BEGUN AND BEFORE THE THIRD INNING, MAY BE ADDED TO THE BOTTOM OF THE LINE UP AND MUST PLAY ONE INNING IN THE FIELD BEFORE BATTING.

31. BOTH COACHES OF THE LAST GAME ON EACH FIELD ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR RETURNING FIELD EQUIPMENT TO THE CONCESSION STAND.

32. EVERY PLAYER GETS TO PLAY THE ENTIRE GAME UNLESS A DISCIPLINE PROBLEM ARISES. THIS MUST BE DISCUSSED WITH THE REPRESENTATIVE FIRST.

33. NO BASE STEALING.

                    34. ALL RULES ARE OPEN TO CHANGE AT COMMITTEE DISCRETION.

26. ANY TEAM FOUND TO HAVE AN OVER THE AGE LIMIT PLAYER ON THEIR TEAM COULD BE FORCED TO FORFEIT THEIR WINS.

27. FIRST TEAM LISTED ON THE SCHEDULE IS HOME TEAM AND IS RESPONSIBLE FOR SCORE KEEPER.

28. COACHES MUST GIVE LINE UP TEN MINUTES BEFORE GAME.

29. IF A TEAM HAS THE MINIMUM NUMBER OF PLAYERS, THE GAME SHOULD START AT POSTED GAME TIME.

30. ANY TEAM WITHOUT THE MINIMUM NUMBER OF PLAYERS TEN MINUTES AFTER POSTED GAME TIME MAY FORFEIT.

31. BOTH COACHES OF THE FIRST GAME ON EACH FIELD ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR PUTTING OUT FIELD EQUIPMENT. (BASES, CATCHERS EQUIPMENT, ETC.).

32. BOTH COACHES OF THE LAST GAME ON EACH FIELD ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR RETURNING FIELD EQUIPMENT TO THE CONCESSION STAND.

33. EVERY PLAYER GETS TO PLAY THE ENTIRE GAME UNLESS A DISCIPLINE PROBLEM ARISES. THIS MUST BE DISCUSSED WITH YOUR REPRESENTATIVE.

GIRLS SOFTBALL ~ RULES & REGULATIONS

1. FIVE RUN LIMIT PER INNING.

2. ALL BATTERS MUST STAY IN LINE WITH BATTING ORDER. (REFER TO ADDENDUM 1.)

3. ANY BATTER ON LINE UP WHO TAKES A TURN AT BAT AND THEN LEAVES THE GAME FOR ANY REASON OTHER THAN SICKNESS OR INJURY, MAY BE COUNTED AS AN OUT EACH TIME IT IS HIS TURN TO BAT THROUGHOUT THE REST OF THE GAME.

4. ALL GAMES WILL BE FIVE INNINGS OR FOUR INNINGS IF THE GAME IS OUT OF REACH. TIE GAMES WILL HAVE A ONE INNING ONLY TIE BREAKER, TIME PERMITTING.

5. MUST HAVE HIND CATCHER AND NO MORE THAN FIVE INFIELDERS.

6. SHORT STOP CANNOT ADVANCE TOWARD BATTER ANY CLOSER THAN THE LINE BETWEEN FIRST AND THIRD BASE.

7. NO INFIELD FLY RULE.

8. UNLIMITED FOULS AFTER SECOND STRIKE.

9. CATCHER DOES NOT TOUCH THE BALL UNTIL AFTER IT HITS THE MAT.

10. IF A PITCHED BALL WITH PROPER ARCH HITS MAT WITHOUT BEING BATTED, IT WILL BE CALLED A STRIKE.

11. PROPER ARCH WILL BE DETERMINED BY THE UMPIRE.

12. A FLAT PITCH WILL BE CALLED A BALL UNLESS BATTER SWINGS.

13. IF 2ND BASE RUNNER PASSES 1ST BASE RUNNER, 1ST BASE RUNNER IS OUT.

14. IF A RUNNER IS HIT BY THE BATTED BALL, THE RUNNER IS OUT.

15. NO DEFENSIVE COACHES ALLOWED INSIDE FENCE.

16. PITCHER MUST HAVE FOOT IN CONTACT WITH RUBBER MAT UNTIL BALL IS RELEASED.

17. INTENTIONAL WALKS MUST BE PITCHED.

18. BALL BOUNCES OVER THE FENCE, ALL PLAYERS ADVANCE TWO BASES.
